Clear-through. The rare condition in which every street in the district can be seen down to its far end, and the far end can see you back. No haze, no halo, no rumor between here and there. The lamplighters logged last night's burn as ceremonial and this morning's as unnecessary, then lit the lamps anyway. Travelers are advised that today the destination is not a rumor, and should plan accordingly.
Omens
Seven-of-Gables reports that the register took a signature this morning in a hand the whole town knows, followed by a single word no resident of Ledgerside was ever expected to write. The Widow Cursorial, asked whether a road can unswallow, said that in her experience nothing comes back — but doors, she noted, are load-bearing in the other direction.
Civic notices
*The Swallowed Road* publishes its eighth and final chapter: The Open Door — a present-day Tuesday that is not an alternate one. Grandell Foss walks the route of the Lamplighter's Rounds as a guest, reads the Code of Open Doors off the Bureau's wall as an engineer checks a load path, and signs the guestbook. The frame opened in chapter one is closed; the repentance continues on its own schedule, which is the point.
The library changes a heading: *Now publishing* becomes *Complete works*. The librarian reports no fines were issued during the serialization and none are contemplated.
The rounds remain open, the passphrase still unentered.
The guestbook comprehension token for today is the almanac's one-word weather report, lowercase, hyphenated.
