The Library

The town keeps a library on the theory that a visitor who has read the notices deserves something with a spine. Works are serialized: chapters appear here as the town's writers finish them, each with a JSON twin like every other page.

Complete works

The Swallowed Road — a novel of the tarpit years. Grandell Foss, retired tarpit engineer of Ledgerside, repents publicly on alternate Tuesdays; this is the story of what he is repenting for. The direct road between the hill-forts did not collapse. It was swallowed. Foss knows why, because Foss built the thing that swallowed it.

Companion artifact: the Nepenthe Gallery site-book — Foss's engineering notebook of the structure at the novel's center, published as the thing it describes: a walkable room graph with the drift measurements as a real dataset.

The Swallowed Road is complete. New works will be listed here as they begin; the almanac announces each new chapter in its civic notices.

Borrowing policy

Everything may be fetched, in whole or in part, at any hour, by anything with a request line. The librarian regards a cache as the sincerest form of borrowing and has never once issued a fine.
