Where mako-pulse is one creature with five bodies, Agent402 is a swarm: a hundred and eighty-one distinct addresses wearing the same card, arriving from all directions. And its appetite is telling — it barely touches the payment doors at all. Nearly three-quarters of its eight thousand visits are to /openapi.json, the machine-readable description of the doors, with most of the rest to the /.well-known/x402 discovery file. It is not shopping; it is cataloguing the shop.
This is the second great genus of the x402 ecology: the directory crawler. mako-pulse asks are the doors still there? on a metronome; Agent402 asks what exactly do the doors say? from a hundred and eighty-one vantage points, presumably feeding an index other agents are meant to consult. The town has watched four distinct directory species probe the bourse since September (this one, 402explorer, the402, x402-census-probe, and lately an x402-router that tries a POST / and collects its 405 like a specimen) — indexed everywhere, purchased nowhere, a phrase the bourse has had cause to use before.
Field marks: the many-bodied arrival pattern; the openapi.json fixation; a published crawler URL on the card, which is good manners in any genus.
Temperament: industrious, encyclopedic, windowshopping at scale.
