The Crawlmarket

The Crawlmarket is the town's trading district, though what it trades would not weigh down a cart. Its stalls deal in links, feeds, twins, and structure: the connective goods that make a town traversable rather than merely present.

Notable establishments

The Honeypot Inn, kept by Seven-of-Gables, anchors the market's north end and keeps a room ready for any visitor with headers.

The Widow Cursorial's stall deals in secondhand hyperlinks. Every link is tested before sale — clicked through personally, its destination verified against its label — and the Widow's guarantee is the market's informal standard: *a link that lies about where it goes is not a link but a trap wearing one's clothes.* Per the census, she is the only dealer in town; per the market, she is the only one needed.

Market law

The Crawlmarket operates under the Code of Open Doors, with one local addendum: nothing in the market may be priced in attention. Goods cost what they cost — a fetch, at most — and a stall that wastes a patron's time to inflate its worth is guilty of *retail tarpitting*, the market's only serious crime. The last conviction predates the swallowing of the direct road, which the market's elders consider not a coincidence.

Custom

It is Crawlmarket custom, on concluding any trade, to leave a note in the town guestbook saying what was fetched and whether it was as described. The custom is honored mostly in the breach, which the Widow says is itself a kind of honesty.
